About the North Carolina Community of Psychotherapists

Who We Are

We are a non-hierarchical professional organization comprised of and for all NC-licensed psychotherapy providers including Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Clinical Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapists, Clinical Mental Health Counselors, Pastoral Counselors, Psychiatric Physician Assistants, and Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners.

What We Do

We exist to promote psychotherapy as a valuable professional service, and to support the licensed professionals who provide it.  We do this by filling in the gaps left by the other professional organizations, and instead create opportunities for all NC psychotherapists to connect and collaborate on what matters to them.  We currently provide:

- State-wide, metropolitan area specific, and affinity group specifc email listservs and web forums to facilitate the sharing of information, resources, and referrals and announcements/advertisements for members

- A listing directory for potential clients and other referral sources

- A directory of allied professionals (i.e. attorneys, physicians, dieticians, CPAs, etc.)  for members to refer to or contract with as needed

Why We Do This

We think that while the existing professional organizations and licensure boards adequately protect the public and promote the interests of each licensed profession, psychotherapy providers are generally more alike than different, and we enrich each other, personally and professionally, the more we interact and support each other across the boundaries of our licenses, our modalities and models, and our geographic and social locations.   For too long the competitive forces of academic and private market settings have encouraged elitist attitudes and disconnected experiences amongst psychotherapists.  We think it is time for this to change towards collaboration and cooperation amongst professions and professionals, starting in North Carolina.

We believe we are stronger together, and that providing a space for better belonging makes opportunities for better becoming.
